After a huge amount of volunteer work by many Iron County Residents, the dream of enhanced 9-1-1- service became a reality on December 15th of 2000. The dispatch center is located at the Iron County Sheriff's Office in Crystal Falls. The location was critical in the decision of many of the voters. Many felt that E 9-1-1 should not be handed off to a dispatch center many miles away. The funding mechanism for  E 9-1-1 is a telephone surcharge. The cost is less than three dollars per month. The surcharge is charged on all access lines within the county. The money has been used to purchase and maintain the sophisticated equipment necessary to make E 9-1-1 operational and to staff the dispatch center 24x7.

The staff of E 9-1-1 would appreciate any comments that you may have about the operation. Two forms are available.

The *PREMISE INFORMATION allows us to enter any special information into the data base that might be of concern in the case of an emergency. An example would be if there is a handicapped or elderly person in your household. This information could be passed on to the emergency responders prior to their arrival on scene.

The *ROAD SIGN REQUEST will allow you to order a replacement sign for your property. The signs were selected for their visibility. It is critical that the responders be able to find your property should an emergency occur. The signs are durable and a small price to pay for the security and peace of mind that they can provide.

Both forms may be downloaded and then returned to the above address. There is a charge for the new road signs. There is no charge for the premise information.
