Divisions Of The Iron County Trial Court

This Unified Trial Court is a trial court of general jurisdiction in Iron County. The Judge of the Trial Court handles any type of case brought before the court. 

The divisions are: 
Circuit ~ Family ~ District ~ Probate

Actions routinely handled in each division are:

CIRCUIT:

  • Civil lawsuits over $25,000 claimed
  • Criminal Felony plea, sentencing or trial
  • Criminal misdemeanor plea, sentencing or trial with a jail term greater than one year
  • Injunctions
  • Appeals from other divisions

FAMILY:

  • Domestic Relation Cases
  • Juvenile Cases
  • Personal Protection Orders
  • Friend of the Court operations

DISTRICT:

  • Civil cases up to $25,000 claimed
  • Land Contract - Mortgage Foreclosures
  • Criminal felony plea and sentencing
  • Criminal misdemeanor plea, sentencing or trial with a jail term up to one year
  • Criminal felony probable cause hearings
  • Traffic cases
  • Peace Bonds
  • Small Claim case filings

PROBATE

  • Wills and Trusts
  • Mental Health cases
  • Guardianships
  • Conservatorship
  • Decedent's Estates
  • Personal Protection Orders

Claims against the State of Michigan are filed with the 'Court of Claims' located in Lansing, Michigan.
