Appointments should be made with the building and electrical inspectors as they hold limited office hours.

If you are considering building your dream home, a hunting camp, a deck for entertaining or a new garage the staff at the construction code office will attempt to make the process as easy as possible.

Our office also issues Demolition Permits, Electrical Permits and new and replacement Fire/House Numbers.

Applying for a Building Permit:

To apply for a building permit, bring the following information to the Construction Code Office:

~Property tax number and job site address or legal description.

~Building Plans (i.e. truss specs, engineered slab drawings, floor plans)

~An estimate of the total cost of the construction project, including labor charges.

Along with the above information all applicable documentation shown on the Permit Procedures List will need to be provided.

Once all documentation is received in our office, the building inspector will review the application and determine the fee. The building permit will then be issued upon payment.

Once you begin building, you or your agent are responsible for calling our office for the necessary inspections.

The six required inspections are as follows:

1. Footings – before pour.
2. Drain Tile – before backfill.
3. Basement and Garage Floors – before pour.
4. Roof – after ice shield is in place.
5. Rough-In – after electrical, plumbing and mechanical are inspected.
6. Final.
