Take a Waterfall Tour
In the fall, Iron County’s waterfalls are surrounded by bright red, yellow and orange leaves, providing a spectacular backdrop for the rushing water. Be sure to watch your step while hiking as trails are often natural or “desire paths” that are not maintained, but we think all these falls are worth seeing! VIEW THE LOCAL WATERFALLS.
Get to Know the Humungous Fungus
Did you know that the largest contiguous life form lives right here in Iron County? It’s a 30+ acre fungus, well over 1,000 years old and exists between Crystal Falls and Alpha. While the fungus lives quietly underground most of the year, it sends up shoots in late September and early October. These are “honey mushrooms” and are known for their honey-colored caps, gills that run partially down their stem to the faint ring and white spores – and they are a prized and delicious delicacy. The Iron County Chamber also runs the Humongous Fungus Festival in Crystal Falls the first weekend in August. LEARN MORE
